Conflicting official sources
- The visa Photo Requirements page also mentions a head size of “1 inch and 1 3/8 inches (22 mm and 35 mm)”; 1 inch is 25 mm, so “22 mm” appears to be a typo. We use the digital-image percentages above.

How to use
- Take a photo facing the camera in even light against a plain plain white or off-white background. This tool does not remove or replace backgrounds.

What size is the DS-160 photo?
A square JPEG between 600×600 and 1200×1200 pixels, 240 kB or smaller. This tool exports 600×600 px and keeps the file under 240 kB.
Where should my head and eyes be?
Head height (top of hair to chin) 50–69% of the image height, and the eyes 56–69% of the image height from the bottom. The guides show both ranges.
Is the DV Lottery photo the same?
The Department of State says the Diversity Visa photo must be exactly 600×600 px. Check the current DV instructions before submitting.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. Cropping and compression run in your browser; nothing is sent to a server.
